Tackling the Roof phase 1.

Now it was time to tackle the roof...
North Facing.

South Facing.

There was no way of saving any of the roof at this end of the house. It was dangerous and needed taking out.

We catalogued samples of the thatch (flax & straw) as we went down through the layers to see how much change there was in the scale and density...the results were interesting.
Apparently wheat is much shorter and the heads much smaller now. Almost half the size.
Not sure who laid these eggs...???
Some of the preserved hand crafted straw rope. 400yrs old and still intact.
An ole Poteen jug found buried in the thatch. It was in the Secret Room were the stable hand used to stay.

The temporary roof is in place to try to save the walls from the oncoming winter.
